A day at the theatre

DD & I went to the theatre yesterday. If you live in the Chicago area (or are visiting) and have kids between the ages of 3 and 10 - you have to check out the productions by Emerald City Theatre. They are amazing!!!!!!
 DD meets "Trixie"

 DD meets "Alice"

We had a great time - with lunch at America's Dog. It was pretty good - not a real big location but the food was good and plentiful.

Pink-tastic!

If you have a little girl (or boy) who likes children's theatre, you need to check out: PINKALICIOUS!

I took DD on opening weekend this past July in Chicago (put on by Emerald City Theatre) at the Broadway Playhouse (right behind Water Tower Place - which is a wonderful theater, small but not too small - I don't think there are 'bad' seats there). We BOTH loved it! The songs are very catchy (ask her about 'Buzz Off" - it still makes her giggle) and it's just a fun play - with an important lesson to be learned.

Pssst - the book is great too! ;)

We both would give it 5 stars (the book AND the show)!

WOW! part 2

A little lesson that was reaffirmed for me last night - don't ever say that a person with a disability can't do something!

DD, a friend of mine and I went to see our local children's theater production of Annie. It was done under the "PENGUIN PROJECT" (click the link to learn more)where children with disabilities are paired with a mentor who helps them with their role. These kids were AMAZING!!!! I really can not even put it into words! Their disabilities ranged from several different syndroms, blindness, epilepsy... and they put their WHOLE beings into the performance. By the time that show was over, I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. The chairman of the theater company said it best before the show started that "there was enough magic in the show to make Harry Potter jealous". AMEN!!!!! It was SO fantastic - the actors AND the mentors!

We can't wait for the next "Penguin Project"!
