Review Post

I am way, way behind on book reviews here. Sorry! So, here are a couple movies we rented this weekend and a book I finished last week.

2 stars
The movie storyline is bizarre and choppy. Then....it just ends.

3.5 stars
Not quite as enjoyable as the first Jack Reacher movie but still pretty entertaining.

4 stars
This is the first book in the Cupcake Bakery series. I loved the characters and the storyline moved well. I am looking forward to reading more!

Have you seen or read anything good lately?

Whew!

I tell you, when I work on the weekend, it makes for a REALLY short weekend!

Friday evening, Young Miss and I went to see the musical our middle schools put on-Beauty & the Beast. It was FANTASTIC!!!!!!! Those kids did an amazing job and are incredibly talented.

I worked all day Saturday and Sunday afternoon at the library. I think in the 8 hours I was there on Saturday, I MIGHT have sat for 20 minutes. There were LOTS of people in and then the kids going to prom came in to take pictures. And I am talking about 100 kids with their parents/families. It was CRAZY for about an hour.

But the weather was pretty crappy on Saturday, so it wasn't TERRIBLE to have to be at work.

My Mr. and I walked a lot on Sunday morning. My step count was way up for the weekend!

Other than that, not much else went on.
How was your weekend?

Weekend recap-St. Louis

First and most importantly, I hope everyone had a nice Mother's Day!

We spent Saturday and Sunday in St. Louis with the main reason being to watch the Cubs/Cardinals game on Sunday.

We went to our favorite BBQ place in St. Louis for lunch on Saturday - Pappy's. It was delicious, as always! Then we went down to The Loop to walk around. The Loop is such a fun neighborhood to walk around and poke in the shops. The St. Louis Walk of Fame is in that 'hood (make sure you check that out).

We took a drive around Forest Park (the old mansions are incredible!) and drove by the Basilica. (One of these days I will go inside - lots of weddings on a Saturday so no go)

We stayed in Collinsville (cheaper and out of the way) at the Doubletree. It was a nice, clean hotel and really quiet.
(Notice anything unusual about the artwork on the room wall?)
(Yes, it's the same photo)

I had been fighting a migraine most of the day so I slept for a couple of hours, then we all just relaxed for the evening.

Sunday, we grabbed a quick breakfast and headed into St. Louis to get parked and soak in some Cards/Cubs atmosphere. Our seats were the second to last row in the stadium BUT the view was GREAT and we could see everything.

I don't like the Cardinals but I really do like their stadium!

The Cubs lost, 5-0, so that wasn't the happiest of games to watch but we sat with several nice Cardinals fans in our section.

I hope you all had a great weekend!

Travel Tuesday - New York/Vermont Getaway

We flew in & out of Albany, New York when we visited the Baseball HOF at the end of March. (You can read that post: HERE
When looking at these pictures I am sharing, please remember the area had an almost 4 foot snowfall about 2 weeks before we visited.

It rained and snowed all weekend. The weather wasn't nice but we still had a good time!
After spending Friday morning at the HOF, we decided to be touristy around the area.
We visited the oldest covered bridge in America - a pretty 20 minute ride beside Ostego Lake to get to it.

We visited Fly Creek Cider Mill for about an hour - tasted their samples and wandered around their huge store. We shipped a box of goodies home, YUM!

We had dinner that night in Cooperstown at Mel's at 22 - which was a little "foofier" than we had anticipated but the food was ok.

Saturday, my Mr. asked if I would want to drive into Vermont to check out some covered bridges there. In looking at the map, we weren't "that far" from there. So we had breakfast and headed out.
(yes, I love quilt barns, too!)

We visited the Bennington, Vermont area. It was very nice, very pretty! We would like to go back to Vermont and see more of it.

Silk Road Covered Bridge:
 Paper Mill Covered Bridge
 Henry Covered Bridge:
 Chiselville Covered Bridge:

There are others but those are the ones we visited.

Mountain scenery:

Bennington Battle Monument:

We drove through the little town of Bennington and really liked it.

It was sugaring time in Vermont, so the steam was rolling out of all the syrup places.

And because we were really close to another state line, we drove VERY briefly through Massachusetts.

I waited and waited for the New York sign:

Right after I took this (sorry it's crooked - we were on the fly), we were plunged into a VERY thick fog.

We stayed in Albany Saturday night and flew back home Sunday afternoon.

It was a great trip and we found a few more spots to add to our travel bucket list!
