Getting to Know You-Blogger edition

Welcome to another edition of "Getting to Know You".

Today I welcome Deanne from This Farm Girl Cooks to my blog. (You can also follow her on Facebook HERE

Can you tell my readers about yourself and your blog?
Hi! My name is Deanne and our family of 6 lives in the country and we farm. That means I feed a lot of people! This Farm Girl Cooks is my blog where I share some insights from our farm and simple, healthy recipes. I’m also a farmer in training so I try to share all my “firsts” because I’m 100% a rookie farmer.
Describe how you first got into blogging.
I’ve wanted to blog for years! Writing has always been something I’ve enjoyed and I finally got the courage to put myself out into the blogging world. Feeding people is a passion of mine so the topic came naturally. I also needed a creative outlet and this fills that desire.
What do you do in your spare time?
I have four kids – I don’t have spare time, ha! This summer I have tackled lots of weeds in the yard. It’s good thinking activity and I can do it while the kids play in the yard. I also like trying new restaurants and reading a good book.
Where would you like to be in blogging five years from now?
I hope I have a community of people who share my passion for feeding their families -  That’s what I’m trying to develop in my blog and my Facebook page. I don’t want to be JUST a food blog. I hope I inspire people to cook and provide them with shortcuts and tips to make cooking a pleasurable experience.
Can you name some of your favorite bloggers and explain why they are your favorites?
Oh, that’s a tough one! Jen McGee, for one :) I also enjoy following Prairie Californian (link HERE) – she has great food photography and she also has farming roots. SkinnyTaste (link HERE) and DietHood (link HERE) for healthy recipes and Joanna Gaines (link HERE), because who doesn’t love her???
What inspired you to start your blog?
My husband supported me in my dream, which was huge.
What do you find the most frustrating aspect of blogging?
Sometimes it’s finding the time to write. Other times, I have the time but I may not be in the mood to write.  I have to write when the moments strikes me. I also have about 2 million ideas floating around in my head most of the time but no enough time to execute them all!
In the future where do you hope your blog will take you?
Honestly, my hope is that I can make some money doing what I love! I also want to promote local businesses that I love through my writing.
Have you met anyone interesting/famous on your blogging journey?
Not personally, but I have met some really nice people who have been open to helping answer questions when I have them. And yesterday, a big food blogger replied to an email of mine which made my day!
Do you have any specific goals for the rest of this year?

I do! My goal is to find more time to get my ideas out there. That’s probably not happening this summer with vacations and kids around, but maybe this fall.

Thank you for stopping by, Deanne! I will be stopping by your blog (and the others you enjoy) often.
Please follow This Farm Girl Cooks on Facebook and her blog!

Getting to Know You-Blogger edition

Welcome back to another edition of Getting to Know You.

Today, I welcome JEN from Marathons and Dog Tags. Please visit her blog and say hi!

Can you tell my readers about yourself and your blog?

Hi everyone! My name is Jen and I'm the resident writer of Marathons and Dog Tags. I'm a military spouse living in Louisiana (soon to be Kansas) with my husband, Kyle, our 9 month old daughter, Emersyn, and our 2 furbabies, Emma and Fishy. I have a Masters degree in Psychology and hope to put that to use in working with children someday. I'm an avid runner and have completed 75 races including a full marathon, it has certainly benefited me in more ways than I ever imagined. I love having this little space of the internet to write about my life and everything that comes along with it.

Describe how you first got into blogging.

I have been blogging for almost 9 years and I started it so that I could have an easy way to keep in contact with family after I married into the military. I love blogging and it has helped me through a lot of different life situations, my blog has a little bit of everything. I still don't consider myself a well established blogger, I simply do it for the enjoyment and it really is a place for me to vent. I am so thankful that I decided to give this a shot because I have met so many incredible people.

What do you do in your spare time?

My spare time is mostly spent with my daughter E, she is in such a fun stage right now and we have the best time together. She really is my little sidekick. I also run, I either take her along with me in the jogging stroller or I wait for my husband to get home and knock out a few miles. As a family we love exploring the areas we live in, being military we are lucky enough to see places we never expected to. Blogging is my downtime at night after everyone has gone to bed.

Where would you like to be in blogging five years from now?

Honestly, I would be happy if I'm still in the same position, would I love to reach more people and be a positive influence, absolutely. But if that doesn't happen it's okay. I'm content and I love the readers I have, some have turned into real life friends.

Can you name some of your favorite bloggers and explain why they are your favorites?

I have so many favorite bloggers, each one has impacted me in some way and that is an amazing thing. I love blogs that focus on real life, they don’t sugarcoat things, they let raw feelings out even when it’s uncomfortable.

A few that have really impacted me are.

Erica from Whimsical September. She is real, honest, and is truly such a sweet person. She is a great mama to her girls and a wonderful military spouse. Her blog has touched on so many different subjects that any person could benefit from.

Bailey from Becoming Bailey. I “met” Bailey several years ago through blogging and we have become real life friends. She is a new military spouse but has taken on this role with such passion and determination. She is another real and honest blogger who is not afraid to put herself out there. I so appreciate that.

Ashley from The Wandering Weekenders. She is a fur mama to Dart  and she has such a big heart and you can tell that from every one of her posts. She is encouraging and just overall such a sweet person.
Missy from My Shitty Kitchen. I first “met” her when we were paired together for a blogger swap and I’m so glad I was introduced to her blog. She is a riot! She posts some of the most amazing recipes and she is a Louisiana gal! Her blog is one that I instantly go to every morning.

Jen from Injenious Life. She is a service member, military spouse, and mama to 4. She is pretty much amazing! She shares the best tutorials and recipes. Plus, I love seeing photos of her littles. I’ve followed her for a few years and her posts are some of my favorites.

What do you find the most frustrating aspect of blogging?

One thing that frustrates me the most about blogging is the idea that you have to make money to have a successful blog. Obviously, if you make money from it that's awesome but I don't think that is indicative of a successful blog. I think being authentic and true to who you are is what makes a blog successful, it doesn't matter how many followers you have.

Do you have any specific goals for the rest of this year?

My goals for the rest of the year are simple, continue to grow my blog in the best way I know how and to just have fun. I want to live life to the fullest and not have any regrets.

Thank you for participating, Jen!

Get to Know - Blogger edition

Good morning!
Welcome to a new blog series here: Get to Know - the Blogger edition

Today I welcome Debra of Peace, Love and Understanding to my blog today. Please read her interview below and visit her blog!

Can you tell my readers about yourself and your blog?  I an Atlanta, Georgia native who works full time for the state of Georgia.  I'm a devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend.  My blog is about things I like, there is a lot of variety.  I post recipes, crochet, knitting & other craft projects, concert reviews, movie reviews and things about my life in general.
Describe how you first got into blogging. Although I read several blogs, I wasn't sure I wanted to start one myself.  However, when I joined Ravelry (a crochet/knitting site), most of the users had blogs and shared them so I decided to start one myself.
What do you do in your spare time? I have a LOT of hobbies! I love to crochet, knit, and other crafts.  I am a movie buff...I would see a movie every single day in the theater, if I could.  I enjoy taking photos, especially nature and wildlife. I also like researching my family tree.  When I have the time, I love traveling, especially to historic locations.
Where would you like to be in blogging five years from now? I hope to still be blogging in 5 years, who knows what paths and directions life will lead us but I hope to continue writing about it.
Can you name some of your favorite bloggers and explain why they are your favorites? The first blog I started reading (many years ago before she was "famous") was The Pioneer Woman, I love her recipes and photos and her outlook on life.  I love Jen McGee's blog, of course, and especially enjoy her photos from her travels with her family, her book recommendations and her scrapbook pages.  I enjoy Kevin & Amanda's blog for the recipes and travel photos and particularly love the photos of her Boston Terriers.  I like checking in on Shelby Osmond's blog (she is Donny Osmond's daughter-in-law) because of her values and photos and I like watching her family grow.  Another I enjoy is FatMumSlim because of her photo challenges and a peek into life in Australia.
What inspired you to start your blog? I think I was mostly inspired by Ravelry users.
What do you find the most frustrating aspect of blogging? The most frustrating aspect is that I wish I had more feedback.  I know from reviewing the stats that I receive about 8,000 hits a month but yet I seldom receive a comment. Although I blog just for me, not to make money or try to become famous, it is nice to know that the people that do read, enjoy it.
In the future where do you hope your blog will take you? I hope it just continues to give me an outlet to express some creativity.
Have you met anyone interesting/famous on your blogging journey? Yes, I wrote a blog post about Frank Inn, the famous animal trainer, best known for training Benji.  His daughter contacted me, she is very nice and informed me that they are hoping to open a memorial museum for her dad.
Do you have any specific goals for the rest of this year? I don't have any blogging goals, except to keep it up.  I have a personal goal to complete the crochet/knitting projects that are currently in progress (I think there are 3 at the moment) and hopefully complete some other projects that currently only reside in my mind.  I hope to continue my genealogy research and perhaps complete a scrapbook about my family history.

Get to Know the Author - Cat Lavoie

Welcome to the third edition of Get to Know the Author. Today's guest is Cat Lavoie.

Welcome, Cat!

Tell us a little about yourself.

Thank you so much for having me on your blog!
My name is Cat Lavoie and I’m a chick lit writer from Montreal, Canada. I’m the author of three novels and a holiday novella—and I’m currently working on my fourth novel.

What other interests do you have?

I’m a crazy cat lady and I love taking pictures of my cat, Abbie, and posting them on Instagram. And if I’m not reading or writing, I’m either binge-watching a new TV show I just discovered or designing new promotional graphics for my books. (I’m addicted to this website called Canva. It’s so much fun!)

Where can we find you on the internet?

My website—CatLavoie.com—is where you can find information on my books and my very neglected blog. I’m @CatLavoieBooks on Twitter and Instagram and CatLavoieAuthor on Facebook.

What are the titles of your books?

My novels are: Breaking the Rules, Zoey & the Moment of Zen, and Peri in Progress. I also have a holiday novella titled Nine Ladies Dancing.

Who do you publish your books with?

I used to publish with a company called Marching Ink, but they closed down last year. I’ve since self-published all my titles.

What made you want to become a writer?

I’ve always loved books. Back in grade school, I was the kid who begged the teacher to stay inside during recess so I could read. (Staying inside and reading is still one of my favorite things to do.) Books and stories have been such a huge part of my life—and I always knew that, one day, I’d write my own novels.

What does your typical writing day look like?

I have a very hectic day job so I squeeze in writing time whenever I can—in the mornings beforeleaving for work, during lunch breaks, in the evenings. The rest of my writing gets done on weekends and days off and holidays. And a lot of “story-thinking” gets done during my morning and evening commutes.

If you could spend time with a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day? (PG-13 please :)

Can I choose ALL of them? Ultimately, I’d have to go with Peri from PERI IN PROGRESS because, to me at least, she sounds like a lot of fun. We share a junk food addiction so I’m sure we would visit the Hamburger Hut in her hometown of Messina. And if I’m lucky she might introduce me other notable Messina residents, like hot chef Milo Preston.

What is the toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been the best compliment?

When my first novel was published, I had a hard time dealing with bad reviews—I took everything to heart. But bad reviews are part of the game. Not everyone is going to love your story or your writing style or the characters you create. It’s never fun knowing a reader didn’t enjoy reading your novel or gave up after only a chapter or two, but you eventually develop a thick skin and you move on from it.

The best compliment is when someone tells me something I wrote made them laugh. Or that they can relate to one of my characters. That kind of feedback is amazing. And when someone tells me they can’t wait for my next book, I want to reach through my computer screen and give them a huge hug.

What book that you have read has most influenced your life? What is your favorite book?

That is a tough question! I have so many books that I could pick as my favorite, but Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella is at the top of the list because, after reading it, I knew I was meant to write chick lit.

Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?

Thank you so much for reading my books, leaving reviews, and being part of my author journey. And if we haven’t already, let’s connect on social media!

PERI IN PROGRESS BLURB

You know what they say about best-laid plans…
After a disastrous thirty-first birthday party where she gets stood-up by a man she isn’t supposed to be dating, Peri McKenna decides it’s time to change what hasn’t been working—which is pretty much everything. Her love life is going nowhere fast, she’s bored to tears by a job that makes her the office pariah, and the lifelong junk food addiction that used to be somewhat quirky is now positively problematic. To top it all off, her newly-purchased home is falling apart and wishful thinking hasn’t done much to fix the leaky roof.
It’s time be an adult now that she’s officially ‘thirty-something.’
But when the first step of Peri’s self-improvement plan backfires, she starts to wonder if change might be overrated.
Enter Milo Preston, an up-and-coming chef who’s in town to take over a local restaurant. When Peri and Milo begin working together, she finds it hard to ignore his easy charm and captivating emerald-green eyes. Since Milo is her best friend’s estranged brother, Peri has to keep reminding herself that he is completely off-limits. As they grow closer, Milo introduces Peri to new foods, the joy (and pain) of jogging, and makes her think her luck might finally be turning.
But when the past catches up with them, Peri finds herself back at square one. Will she be able to sort herself out—or will the roof cave in on her once and for all?

Thank you for joining us, Cat! Please stop by her sites and check out her books!!!

Get to Know the Author - Cynthia Luhrs

Welcome to the second "Get to Know the Author" segment.

Today, I welcome Cynthia Luhrs to the blog.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m a southern girly girl who lives with three tiger cats and drinks gallons of iced tea with mint picked from the garden. When I was little my parents allowed my brother and I one hour of television a day but I always read books. Once I’d read all my books from the library, I’d look around and pick up whatever my dad was reading, I wasn’t picky, I just wanted to read. It was his fault I’m afraid of clowns and getting eaten by sharks. Thank you IT and Jaws.

What other interests do you have?

Reading of course! I also like to sew, machine embroider, monograms for all is my motto, and I also crochet, quilt, and paint.

Where can we find you on the internet?

Stop by and say hi.

What are the titles of your books?

When She Was Good (Coming end 2017)
When She Was Bad
There Was A Little Girl
Beyond Time (Coming in May)
My One and Only Knight
Last Knight
First Knight
Forever Knight
Darkest Knight
Lonely is the Knight
Knight Moves
A Knight to Remember (the first in the series and free everywhere)

What made you want to become a writer?

I wanted to write stories readers could curl up with and find themselves transported to another world and books they’d finish with a smile.
What does your typical writing day look like?

When it’s nice outside you’ll find me on the deck or the screened-in porch with my laptop, writing away. In the cooler weather, I’m in my office at my desk or my new treadmill desk, which I’m still trying to get the hang of typing and walking, I’m rather uncoordinated. I typically write from nine until noon, break for lunch and then take care of the business side of things, run errands, etc. Then I’ll write again from seven until eleven. Though when I’m on a deadline, it’s all words all the time, the laundry piles up and I’m surviving on Pop-Tarts, carrots, and Pepsi by the time I turn the book in to my editor.

What have you put most of your effort into regarding writing?

Learning the craft of writing and nailing dialogue. Sparkling, witty dialogue is my goal though I’m not there yet, however I keep working on improving. Always trying to make the next book better than the last.

If you could spend time a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day? (PG-13 please :)

Charlotte Merriweather from Lonely is the Knight. She’s a free-spirit who figured out her sisters time-traveled and made preparations to go find them even though she didn’t know how they managed to fall through time. Her belief was so strong, you just knew she’d accomplish whatever she set her mind to achieving. I’d like to meet up with her in medieval England and spend a day with her going about her day-to-day life, learning little details that have been lost as time passed.

What is the toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been the best compliment?

Constructive criticism is great, things like head hopping or mixing present and past tenses, that kind of feedback helps me improve my craft. But the mean kind? I quit reading those reviews a long time ago. As far as the best compliment? Whenever a reader takes time out of their busy life to email me or post on social media that I kept them up all night reading, or I made them cry or they’ve read the books over and over, I treasure each and every one of those, they make my day.

What book that you have read has most influenced your life? What is your favorite book?

There are so many, I can’t pick one. I’d have to say reading as a whole has made me a better person and shown me other viewpoints and worlds. As far as my favorite book? Hands down, it’s Outlander. The book that hooked me on the time travel genre and had me searching out every book I could get my hands on.

Who is your favorite author (besides yourself)?

It’s so hard to pick just one. Tessa Dare and Courtney Milan for fantastic dialogue. Of course Diana Gabaldon and J.K. Rowling for stories that when you close their books it takes a moment to realize what day it is And of course Stephen King, Harlan Coben, James Patterson, and so many more. But if you’re going to make me choose, right now it’s Karen Marie Moning for her Fever series. I absolutely loved the series and Jerrico Barrons is one of the greatest alpha heroes I’ve read in a while.

Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?

Thank you so very much for taking time to read my books, I write them for each of you and hope you close the book with a smile.

Thank you for stopping by, Cynthia! I hope you will all check out her books.

Get to Know the Author - Tracie Bannister

Welcome to the first of what I hope will be a new blog series.

Today I want to introduce you to a wonderful author, Tracie Bannister.

Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Tracie Banister, and I’m an author of four Chick Lit novels, along with being a blogger, TV addict, and dog lover. I live in the suburbs of Atlanta with my three Cocker Spaniels who keep me on my toes!

What other interests do you have?

I love to read, which should come as no surprise since I write books for a living! I enjoy traveling and going to the theater when time and my budget allows. And I’m very passionate about the welfare of animals. Two of my dogs are senior rescues with special needs.

Where can we find you on the internet?

I’m everywhere and I always enjoy talking to fellow book lovers. So, feel free to follow me on Twitter https://twitter.com/traciebanister
Facebook https://www.facebook.com/tracie.banister
Instagram https://www.instagram.com/traciebanister/
I, also, have a blog: https://traciebanister.blogspot.com/

What are the titles of your books?

Blame It on the Fame, In Need of Therapy, Twin Piques, and my latest release, Mixing It Up.

Who do you publish your books with?

I am proud to be an indie author. Of course, I have a talented team of professionals (beta readers, formatter, and cover art designer) who help me get my books ready for release.

What made you want to become a writer?
I’ve been writing since I was in elementary school—plays, essays, short stories, etc. Writing just came naturally, and I enjoyed sharing my work with others. I dreamed of one day publishing a novel, but I also had dreams of marrying a prince and starring on a soap opera. None of those dreams seemed very likely to happen, so I did what sensible people do when they grow up and got a real job (administrative work). I took a stab at writing a Historical Romance in my early twenties just to see if I could do it, but got distracted by real life and never finished it. For the next decade or so, I kept my creative juices flowing by penning a lot of genre fan fiction that was well-received online.
My “Aha!” moment came when I lost my job as a personal assistant after twelve years. My friends and family encouraged me to follow my bliss and devote myself full-time to writing a novel. The thought of chasing a dream was pretty scary, and I honestly didn’t know if I had what it took to not only complete a novel, but submit it to agents and editors. Rather than spend the rest of my life wondering, “What if?” I decided to commit myself 100% to getting my work published. I’m happy to say that despite a lot of ups and downs, it’s been a really amazing experience and I’m proud of myself for going after what I wanted.

What does your typical writing day look like?
I try to catch up on social media and correspondence first thing in the morning, then I switch to writing mode at 10:00. While working on my third book, I discovered The Pomodoro Technique, which has helped tremendously with my productivity. With this technique, I set a 25-minute timer, then I do nothing for that space of time except focus on my book and get words on the page. When the timer goes off, I have a 5-minute break to fold a load of laundry, grab a drink, whatever. This technique is perfect for a writer like me who gets easily distracted. I usually write until around 1:00 when I stop to work out and eat lunch. Then, I’m back at it from 2:00 to 5:00. The writing life is not a glamorous one! It’s mostly just putting your butt in the chair and typing.
What have you put most of your effort into regarding writing?

Well, I hope I put the most effort into my writing since in the end, that’s the most important thing—having a final product I’m happy with and want to share. But I also spend a great deal of time doing various types of promotion and marketing. Authors have to spread the word about their books; it’s an essential part of the job!

If you could spend time with a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day? (PG-13 please :)

If I was going to spend a day with Cecily, the Cordon Bleu-trained heroine of Mixing It Up, I’d want to start with her making me a delicious breakfast (since French cuisine is her specialty, I’d hope that fresh, buttery croissants would be on the menu). Then, we’d take a limo ride out to her family’s house in the Hamptons where we could lounge by the pool, drinking mimosas served by the butler. (Did I mention that Cecily’s family is super rich?) And in the evening, I could tag along with Cecily to a fancy charity gala of some kind (probably held at a yacht club) where we would hobnob with the Hamptons elite and whatever celebrities were in town.

What is the toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been the best compliment?

I don’t know that it was criticism so much as advice, but I was told by several agents and publishers that I was “wasting” my talent on writing Chick Lit, a genre they considered to be dead. I was baffled by this because I know so many people who love and read nothing but Chick Lit. That was when I decided to keep on writing what I knew I was good at and go the indie route.

I guess the best compliment I’ve received is that people think I’m funny! I love hearing that I’ve brightened a reader’s day and made them smile or laugh.

What book that you have read has most influenced your life? What is your favorite book?

Jane Austen’s books were probably the most influential (especially Pride and Prejudice) as her stories combined humor with romance, had wonderfully witty dialogue and fully fleshed out characters, and were such entertaining reads. Her work certainly inspired me to write my modern-day Chick Lit.

My favorite book of all time is Margaret Mitchell’s Gone With the Wind. I just adored the character of Scarlett O’Hara; she was so strong and sassy and she was very flawed, which made her fascinating.

Who is your favorite author (besides yourself)?

It’s impossible to narrow my very long list of favorites down to just one. Some writers I’ve discovered in recent months who’ve really wowed me are: Kitty French, Marianne Mancusi, Kristen Painter, and Deanna Rayburn. I am purposely not naming authors from my own genre as I know too many of them personally! ;)

Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?

I hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them and I’m so grateful for your support!

Thanks for having me on your blog, Jen. :)

Tracie's latest book is a very fun read. Please pick up a copy of it!

BOOK BLURB
Born with a silver spoon in her mouth, Manhattan upper-cruster Cecily Sinclair now uses that pricey utensil to dish up fancy French fare on her cooking show, Serving Romance. When there’s an executive shake-up at the network, she’s not worried. Not much anyway. Her show’s a hitafter all. Why would the new CEO want to mess with success?
The driving force behind several buzzed-about networks, Devlin Hayes is considered to be a wunderkind in the television industry. Although his plans to rebrand CuisineTV and make Serving Romance more Millennial-friendly don’t thrill Cecily, her charming, blue-eyed boss is a hard man to say “no” to and she really wants to keep her job—even if that means sharing screen time with a loathsome blast from her past.
Mercurial Italian chef Dante Marchetti a.k.a. “Il Duce” was once Cecily’s boss, and she has the PTSD to prove it. Now the owner of one of the hottest restaurants in town, Dante’s egomania knows no bounds and his constant attempts to provoke and upstage Cecily make her want to conk him on the head with a sauté pan. She thinks they’re toxic together, but viewers love their chemistry and clamor for more.
As Cecily battles to maintain the integrity of her show, she finds herself scheming and manipulating right along with Dante and Devlin. Is she fighting a lost cause? Does she really belong on TV, or would her culinary talent be better served elsewhere? And could one of the men who makes Cecily’s blood boil ignite a passion in her for something other than food?

AUTHOR BIO
An avid reader and writer, Tracie Banister has been scribbling stories since she was a child, most of them featuring feisty heroines with complicated love lives like her favorite fictional protagonist Scarlett O'Hara. Her work was first seen on the stage of her elementary school, where her 4th grade class performed an original holiday play she penned. (Like all good divas-in-the-making, she also starred in and tried to direct the production.)
Tracie’s dreams of authorial success were put on the backburner when she reached adulthood and discovered that she needed a "real" job in order to pay her bills. Her career as personal assistant to a local entrepreneur lasted for 12 years. When it ended, she decided to follow her bliss and dedicate herself to writing full-time. Mixing It Up is her fourth Chick Lit release, and in it Tracie finally got to live out her fantasy of being a Cordon Bleu-trained chef.
