Our Saturday

DD &I went down to the end of our block to cheer on the runners in the 10K yesterday. Mile 5 sits right at the end of our block, so they have just about a 1 1/2 miles left. We're sitting there clapping and encouraging them - most of them would wave and say thank you. One lady looked at me and said "Aw, shut up!" Oooookay.... I thought the lady sitting across the street was going to fall off the curb laughing.

On to enjoy the rest of the festival today - hope the weather is decent.

U-S-A!

WHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
I am truly enjoying the Olympics. I have had a good time watching the good ole USA win many times over. I find it exciting to watch all these amazing men and women - their physique, their ability - just astounds me! I hope I'm not the only one who will admit this, I've shed a few tears watching them too. The "struggle" that some of these athletes go through to get there or something goes wrong during their event. UGH! NBC did a closing "comments" the other night on some of the "little" stories - and the German superweight lifter that won the gold and held his wife's picture during the medal ceremony was touching, then of course good old Bob says "She had started a savings account last year to come to these games with her husband but was killed in an auto accident last year." Thank you, Bob - turn on the waterworks!
I have to say, in a way, I am glad they are ending on Sunday because I don't think I can take another week of staying up until 11 or 11:30 to watch them every night. I hope when they are in London in 2012 that the time thing will be a little easier...
While I was outside tonight with DD, I realized how much our neighborhood must have Olympic fever. There were a lot of kids out playing and I heard many cries of "He wins the gold medal" and "Now it's time for track and field". I had to giggle - it was fun!

Ok - just taking a scrap/Olympic break - back to it!
Have a GREAT weekend!

I got some scrapping done this weekend!

Teenagers....

You know, just when I ALMOST forget what it's like to be a teenager. I see a teenager do something that makes me remember.
Remember:
Laughing with my friends about a stupid joke.
Giggling about some boy.
Thinking how "terrible" life was sometimes. (If I'd only known...)
Worrying about what to wear and if my hair looked ok.

Ahhhh....yes. Then I see my DS and his friends and see the teenage lifestyle from the "other" side. Boys! Oh, how different they are from teenage girls! Yes, I know they get all googly eyed over some girl and har har with their friends, but the drama is just not there. And I'm SO thankful! Because that, in about 8 years, I WILL have to deal with....

For now, I will just settle for my teenage girl memories and watch from the sidelines as DS goes through his teenage years.

It's ALMOST Friday!

Yippee!!!!!!!!!!

There's a new challenge on my Challenge U 2 blog (see link to the right) from Tuesday and there will be another one tomorrow. I hope you scrappers will join in the fun.

My sister came to visit Tuesday night. It's always great to see her. We did some knitting, visited, watched the Olympics. I finished my scarf. :)

Other than that, not much else is new and "exciting". I am hosting a crop this Sunday, so hopefully there will be more scraps to share next week.

Hope you're all having a good week!

Happy Sunday

I hope you're all having a great weekend. The weather here has been MAGNIFICENT!!!!! Sunny, lower 80s.

DD & I went for a bike ride to the park this morning then biked to where DH & DS are working today to have lunch with them. I think we went about 6 miles, altogether. Whew....

The Olympics are in full swing and we are having a lot of fun watching them. Go USA!!!!!!

I have started another blog for those who are interested in scrapbooking challenges: Challenge U 2 I hope you'll stop by and participate! The link is also at the right --------> (under You Can Find Me....)

I did get some scrapping done as mentioned before....

I am heading outside soak up some sun and do a little reading. Have a great Sunday!

It's Saturday!

I went to a crop last night and actually got some scrapping done! (I swear I get ADD at those things - wandering around, looking at what others are doing, shopping...) I got to use a Cricut for the 1st time - oh, man - now I REALLY want one!!! Anyway, I will try to get some pictures of the layouts I got done and get them posted soon!!!!!!!!

Yesterday, marked the 20 year anniversary of lights at Wrigley Field. (for those of you who store useless bits of crap) And TODAY - marks the 20 year anniversary of the 1st OFFICIAL night game at Wrigley Field.

What have you been reading this summer? I have gotten lots of reading done and hope to get a few more books read this month - you can check out my good reads list with the link to the right. If you're on good reads - let me know!

I have been posting a weekly challenge at 2 Peas every week for the past few weeks, but don't seem to be getting many takers, so if you are in the mood for a scrapbook challenge - check this out.... http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/mb.asp?

Hopefully the weather will hold out and DD & I can head to the park shortly to play for a while before work.

And just a little photo for the day, our kiddos on the 4th of July:
Have a great weekend!

A mother's embarassment....

WARNING/disclosure: For those of you with weak stomachs, you may want to pass on this one!

We went to the library last night, when DD loudly announced she needed to go poopy. (Remember, I work there a few nights a week) So, I take her into the bathroom. (Please bear in mind the bathrooms echo) So she finishes her business and loudly (again!) proclaims "Holy cow! That is the biggest piece of poop I have ever seen!" Knowing that you can sometimes hear what goes on in the bathroom when you walk by them, I prayed no one was there. BUT, you know that couldn't be the case....a couple of co-workers were snickering when we left.

4 year olds.....

Americana

We took a family evening last night and enjoyed a small piece of Americana - the drive in movie theater! :) We enjoy going and despite the HORRIBLE thunderstorm that came through, it was fun. We saw DARK KNIGHT and GET SMART (talk about opposites in movies).

DARK KNIGHT - better than BATMAN BEGINS! Joker was creepy. I am still having a hard time with Christian Bale as Batman, but.... Heath Ledger was a great Joker - not Jack Nicholson but he was really good!

GET SMART - Steve Carrell was fantastic! DH & I were rolling through most of the movie (despite the power loss that we sat through for 10 minutes and the thunder and lightening). Makes me want to watch the show...

I hope you're all having a great weekend!

Turning the page....

Since we went on our vacation, I have been eating crap! Candy, cookies, junk! I have decided, that's enough!

This week, we started walking again - much to the protest of our joints. We got lots of fruits and veggies at the store this week. We have been eating salads, fruit for snacks, yogurt and a lot more water! It's amazing how much better I'm feeling in just a few days.

I do know that I'm weak right now and any support is greatly appreciated!

Hope you're having a good week.

OMG - I'm a snob!

I came to a horrible realization this weekend. I wanted a coffee and there wasn't a Starbucks nearby. There was Caribou and a local coffee shop, but no Starbucks. So I didn't get one.....

GASP! I didn't think I'd ever get like this! What has happened to me??????

A random photo for today:

This is from May - this guy was just hanging out in our yard.

Have a GREAT Wednesday!

Disney World & Cruise

So that I don't bore you too much - I'll just hit the highlights of our trip...

Day 1: We stayed at the Polynesian Resort for the 1st night. That was all we did that day - just stayed at the resort and relaxed. The most exciting things were: we got upgraded to the conceierage level (what a nice surprise!) - we could see the Magic Kingdom from our room. DH & I left DD at the Neverland Club (daycare) while we went "exploring" the other resorts in the area. When we went to pick her up, she came out and saw us and said "What are you doing here?" I guess she was having a good time!

Day 2: We were bused to Port Canaveral to catch our cruise ship - Disney Wonder. We got checked in (don't ask!!!!) and boarded. We had also been upgraded from a level 12 room to a level 9 room - we knew about that - we had a nice big porthole window we could look out. We explored the ship, had some lunch, went to the Sail Away Party and relaxed the rest of the afternoon. We had dinner at Animator's Palette - VERY cool restaurant on board.

Day 3: Port call in Nassau. I could have done without this stop, but it seems all the cruise lines stop there. DH & I explored the city on our own - yes, DD was at the Oceaneer Club (daycare) because she didn't want to be with us. DH & I went to see an old fort, Hard Rock Cafe and Queen's Staircase. I was more than ready to go back to the ship after that! He & I had lunch by ourselves at Triton's - very yummy! We got DD, checked out the pools and took naps. That night we went to the show - Toy Story the Musical - it was lots of fun! As it was "Pirate Night" - we found pirate mouse ears for DD and had dinner at Parrot Cay.

Day 4: Port call - Disney's island, Castaway Cay. Nice sunny day to play on the beach. I had been given my "surprise" the night before - DH had booked me a cabana massage for that morning. It was heaven!!!!! So DH & DD played on the beach/in the ocean while I had that. When I joined them, DD decided she wanted to join her "oceaneer friends" so she joined them and we had lunch and went snorkeling. Since it was our last night on the ship, we had to pack up. So we rested a little, went to go see that evening's show, had dinner at Triton's and packed everything up.

Day 5: Left the ship early and headed back to "the World". We stayed at Pop Century - what a VERY fun hotel! We barely got in the door to our room & DD climbed up on a bed and laid down - she was asleep withing 3 minutes. So DH headed to Hollywood Studios for Star Wars Weekend while I unpacked us and DD slept. We headed to Magic Kingdom a little after lunch. DD got her hair/makeup/nails done at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique - she HATED having her hair done but she LOVED getting her makeup & nails done. Then it was off to dinner in Cinderella's Castle. After that, we rode and rode and rode until almost 11:30. Then it was time to crash! And crash we all did!

Day 6: WE SLEPT IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think any of us even moved until after 8. Then we headed to Grand Floridian for DD's Tea Party with Alice. DH & I had a sandwich there while she did that - no parents were allowed, except a couple quick pictures when they were being seated. After that, we spent a few hours at Epcot - by the way, the chocolate mousse in France is divine! :D We went to Downtown Disney that evening for some shopping and walking.

Day 7: Hollywood Studios - what a fun day! It was hot though. We rode a few rides, saw a few shows. We had a late lunch at the 50s Prime Time Cafe - yummy!!!! Since our Disney time was drawing to a close, we started packing that evening. We watched Epcot's fireworks from our hotel, finished packing and crashed.

Day 8: Up and checked out - off to Animal Kingdom. It was INCREDIBLY hot! The safari was AWESOME this time - lots of animals and they were active. Saw lots of shows too. We headed back to the hotel to have some lunch, take some pictures, get our luggage and catch our "Magical Express" to the airport.

It was a GREAT trip! DD hopes we can go back soon!

HELLO!

Whew!
We're all back from our "world" travels...DH, DD & I went to Disney World and took the Disney cruise. We had a VERY nice time!

DS is back from Alaska - he took a week long cruise and week long land tour. He LOVED it - is maybe thinking he'd like to live there....I say go back in winter and see if you still feel that way!

The concert was AMAZING last week! We sat & cooked in the sun for about 4 hours while we were there before the sun went down but it was GREAT! (Yes - I can admit I'm a dork!)

Watch for more pictures...

Hope you're having a great summer!

Back from "enemy territory"

That's right....St. Louis! Those blasted Cardinals...

Just kidding! DH & I went this past weekend for my work's conference. We had a nice time. The speaker was a bit long and not that exciting, BUT what are you going to do!?

Anyway, our choice of activity for Friday evening was to have dinner at Busch Stadium's Champions Club. It was very nice! It was really neat to be there by ourselves and watch them set up for the Dave Matthews concert. Then we went to the City Museum for a couple of hours - that place is REALLY cool!!!!!! Lots of climbing, hands on - VERY kid friendly place!

Saturday, we walked to the Arch and took the ride to the top. The view is so neat from up there and that structure is just amazing! Then we walked to Union Station for lunch and some shoppping. After that, we went back to our room and took naps until we had to get ready for the theater. Our entire group went to see Mama Mia - cute show but I don't think I'd go see it again. They fed us dinner AT the theater before the show and it was yummy!

Sunday we left the hotel early and decided to go to Meramec Caverns. The neon sign should have been out tip-off that this was going to be SUPER TOURISTY!!!!!!!!!! (I would also like to add the mirrored ball hanging from the ceiling of the "ballroom" did nothing to deter that feeling) But we enjoy caves and over all - we saw some really cool formations and the thought of how they got there is amazing! The tour itself - QUITE disappointing!!!!! Oh well!

But we had a nice time overall, despite the heat, rain and St. Louis humidity. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

I LOVE my job!

Really! I do!

I feel very fortunate that I love what I do and who I do it with (for the most part...)! Our company has an amazing philosophy of "teams" (aka: office staffs) doing things together.

Today our team had an outing - we played paintball! It was the 1st time any of us had ever gone and we all had SUCH a GREAT time! Minimal injuries (mostly bumps and bruises), many laughs and a great way to build trust and leadership. It stormed on the way there, so the fields were wet but none of us seemed to mind getting wet and muddy - and we were! But by the time we played the last game, the sun was trying to come out.

I just wanted to share the fun.... Off to put ice on my welts and bruises! :)

WTH???

REALLY? WTH?
I was walking to work today and as a lady (complete stranger) comes around the corner with her husband, she dead stops in front of me and squeals (yes, squeals!):

"Oh my God! We're twinies! Isn't that cool?" I apparently gave her the WTH look because she points to my pants "We have the same pants."
My reply: "Ah, ok. Great." And walk around her to work.
Weirdo....
It's not jr. high - we're strangers on the street.

#300

Yep, blog post #300! :D

For those of you who have heard me talk and those of you who have not, (read: complain/bitch) about the one co-worker that I have that I do not like, sit back and enjoy!

Dear Co-Worker:
1. You are not my boss. I hope you can remember that! If you would like help with something, then please, by all means, ASK for help! I don't appreciate you dictating me to do your clerical tasks while I am buried under paper and files of my own.
2. When you are on hold with someone, do we all have to listen to the muzak? Seriously! I don't need to know that your call is important to them, followed by the musical sounds of instrumental Copacabana! Turn your damn speaker phone off!!!!!!! Stick it to your ear like the rest of us.
3. You are capable of waiting of clients when they come in. Please don't make them stand there and wait because I am on the phone or waiting on another client. CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Sincerely,
Your irritated coworker

My Cubbies are doing great! I am SO excited about how well they're doing!

Have a GREAT weekend!

May update, part 2

I guess all that's left to update on is Memorial Day weekend...

Friday, we went into the city to have dinner with my sis and brother in law. Despite the 3 hour (it should have been a little over an hour) trip - love Chicago area traffic. :) Anyway, we arrived safely, took the El (made DD's night! - she's still talking about it) and walked a couple of blocks to "Piece" - yummy pizza!!!!!! Thanks, A & D for a fun evening and good company. DD's favorite part, of course was the "train ride" and the "shoe store" (we just walked by one and I thought she was going to wet her pants with excitement...girls...)

Saturday was pretty quiet - we picked up DD's glasses, DS had an orientation for his cruise with my in laws next month, and I worked at the library in the afternoon. I use the word "work" very loosely - it was VERY dead in there so I managed to finish the book I was reading - time well spent....

Sunday we went to the zoo with some friends. It was a GORGEOUS day! Sunny, mid-70s. The animals were out and playing. The zoo was packed! (Zoo pictures to come in a few days...) We spent the night at a hotel about 15 minutes from the zoo. We had dinner at Ed Debevic's, then went back to the hotel to relax.

Monday we had breakfast and swam in the pool for a while. We checked out by 11 and headed our separate ways. We swung by Archivers (oh I love their $1.99 spot!) and picked up some embellishments. We picked up McD's on the way home for lunch and crashed after we ate. DH & DS went to go see the new Indiana Jones movie - they weren't real excited about it.

I hope you had a nice Memorial Day weekend!

May update, part 1

Greetings fellow bloggers and blog readers!

I do not know where May has gone. Geez... The weather this month has been up & down.

Oh let's see, what have we been doing this month?

The first weekend of May was BEAUTIFUL! Sunny, 70s...so that Sunday, we loaded up the bikes and drove about 20 miles to the bike path and rode for about an hour. It was lots of fun and it was nice to see spring coming. Then we accidentally stumbled on a parade, so we sat and watched that for the rest of the afternoon. We came home with about 5 pounds of candy...

Mother's Day was very nice! We went to the Cubs game - the weather was HORRID! Rainy, windy (20 mph with 40 mph gusts) and a high of 46. More like football weather, BUT we waited out the delay and the Cubbies won! :) Complete with some fan action - an idiot in the bleachers jumped the wall and was running around the outfield during the game. Hope that moron collected enough money for his bail AND took it with him!

DD got her new glasses - FINALLY this past Saturday! What a fiasco! We waited 6 weeks for them! Hello? Customer service people! She had her exam 6 weeks ago and tried on frames that she really liked but they didn't have them with the long temple bows so they had to order her a similar frame, 5 - 7 days. A week & a half pass and I finally call them - Oh, ah...well they should be coming. Another week passes, I call again - they're on back order. No one called!!!! HELLO????? SO, I wait until the back order date and wait a few extra days. Stop by to see what's going on. They should be another 3 or 4 days. I wait another week, and call. Nothing. Of course, the next day when we have a million things going on, they come in but I leave early and we get them fitted and order her lens. So they call this past Friday - they're all in. So, we go pick her up early and take her - the temple bows are WAY too short! The lens are pressing against her eyeballs and the girl says "I think she could be ok". Ahhhhh - NO!!!!! So, of course, we leave to go out of town for the evening (that will be update part 2) and when we get home at 10:30 there is a message that they have worked on her glasses and they should be fine. So bottom line, she has them now and LOVES that they turn into "sunglasses" now.

Hope you're all well and I'll update you further soon!

Hopefully I'll have some more in the next few days....

Tomorrow is....

National Scrapbooking Day! Yes, that's right - it has it's own "holiday". :D However, I won't probably be doing much during the day tomorrow - gotta work... Hopefully tonight and tomorrow night, I can do a little scrapping and have a little "show" soon!

To my scrapping friends - I challenge you to do a layout using YOUR handwriting - NO computer fonts anywhere.... You can do it! (Please link me to your layout)

Happy May Day!

I just wanted to wish you all a Happy month of May! May you have a spring filled month!!!!!

HUGS!

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

YES!!!

Much to be happy about....

The Cubs just finished a 7-1 home stand and their overall record for the season, so far is 14-6. Yesterday's win was number 9,999 for the orginization. If this keeps up this year, and I hope it does, it's gonna be a GREAT season! : )

Phase 1 of the basement has been completed! The carpet is in and the furniture is back. It was GREAT to lay on the floor and watch TV. DD was THRILLED that the TV was back and that she could be down there again.

I will once again say that I work for the greatest company! We had an all-team meeting yesterday and as much as I wasn't looking forward to it, it was pretty good. There were a lot of creative skits and the speaker was pretty good. As a "thank you" for our work in the 1st quarter, they gave each of us an iPod Nano. I almost fell out of my chair... quite a thank you!

DS is off today - due to the mandatory Illinois ACT test. Our district makes the juniors go to school but the rest of the high school has a day & a half off.... First, I think it's silly that ALL the juniors have to take the ACT. Second, I'm sure the middle school & elementray teachers aren't happy THEY all have to go to work! Third, yet another day off of school...brother!

DH & I started walking again. We have been out every night for the past week. I can't believe the difference in how I feel - SO much better! Why do I let myself go like that? LAZY!

Nothing real creative going on with my right now...I would like to try to get some sewing done this week.

Hope you're all having a great week!

Monday, April 21, 2008

Quick catch up

Sorry I've been away so much. There seems to be tons going on and now that the weather is getting nicer, it's hard to sit at the computer at home.

DS had a karate tournament last weekend. He took a 1st and a 2nd. We're very proud of him! He works very hard at his karate. He's scheduled to test for his adult black belt this December.

My sis came out last week. We had lunch and a girls afternoon. It was very nice! I had a great time and hope to do it again soon. She taught me to knit. : )

We have had some very nice weather - I believe spring is finally here. I got some sewing done for DD this past weekend, with more to do.

The basement is nearing completion (ok, phase 1). The carpet is going in today. Then it's moving back in there...

I hope you are all well!

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

Greetings!

I am still alive. I have been MEANING to post something meaningful but the time slips away. I have pictures and updates galore...

I hope you are all well and when I have more than 2 minutes to sit down, I will post it. I am HOPING to go blog visiting this week - have a good one! Thanks for stopping by!

HUGS!

Happy weekend

LAST Sunday, it was GORGEOUS out! Mid 60s and sunny... I took advantage of the weather to go do a shoot at a local historic home - I had the place to myself. It was wonderful! Here's a few of the pictures I took...

This weekend, NOT so nice! It snowed/rained this morning! Hello? It's mid-April!!!! BUT, I hear the 70s are coming this week.

I hope you're all having a good weekend!

Forward...

FInally...I looked at these. I took them the week after the shootings and have just now looked at them. It still makes me teary but I don't feel like a complete meltdown is coming on. These were the memorial boards that were signed from across the nation! It was amazing the love and support that were written on them.

The 5 crosses and Huskies that stood in the Commons and in front of Cole Hall.

We visited those 10 days after the shooting and against my better judgement, I ended up being interviewed and on TV. The memorials have been removed from campus now and our community is healing and has come together amazingly strong.

Friday, April 04, 2008

It's started...

Here is the start of my digi version of our trip to San Fran & Hawaii last fall. Thanks for looking!

TGIF!!!!!!!

Man has it been a long week! I am so glad it's Friday tomorrow. (It's late on Thursday) Not much planned for the weekend. DS had a karate demo tomorrow night. I work Saturday afternoon and Sunday I'm hoping for a house cleaning morning with something I want to do in the afternoon (AKA: scrapping, sewing, reading, etc)

Well, FINALLY - the Cubs won today! I was afraid the Brewers were going to sweep them to start the season. They have a record of 1 - 2. Whew... At this rate, it is going to be a long season! I'm hoping as the weather warms up, so will the team!

And now, for a soap box moment...

Ahem! Dear library patrons....when you check something out of the library, please treat it as if it were your own! As part of the team that has to fix the things that are broken, trashed, torn, etc - we appreciate your concern for our job security but it makes us sad to see CDs used as coasters and books used as toys. Please be considerate of other patrons and their wanting to use those materials too. Thank you! :)

Ok, sorry - just had to get that off my chest.

I wish you all a wonderful Friday and a great weekend!
